How to play Hunt the Wumpus

Percepts

  • Breeze: A pit is in an adjacent room!
  • Stench: The Wumpus is in an adjacent room!
  • Glitter: The gold is in your room!
  • Bump: you bumped into a wall.
  • Scream: The wumpus has died!

Points

  • -1 point for each action taken
  • -10 points for shooting the arrow
  • -1000 points for death by wumpus or pit
  • -2000 points for starving (occurs after 160 actions)
  • +1000 points for escaping with the gold

Player Actions

  • Movement: (WASD) to move up/left/down/right
  • Shoot Arrow: (Arrow keys decide direction)
  • Pick up Gold: (G Key)
  • Climb Out: (C Key, only in 0,0)

Game Parameters

  • (0,0) is the starting room, and always safe.
  • One Wumpus in a random room other than (0,0)
  • Pits are randomly placed,
  • (20% pit chance per room)
  • Gold in a random room
Game Description:

In this game, your mission will be to explore the Wumpus World in search for gold.

To win, you must pick up the gold (G) and climb (C) back out of the cave entrance.

You will start in the bottom left square (0,0) equipped with a bow and one arrow.

In a single room of the cave, sits an immobile, stinky Wumpus.

You may shoot him, however-

Be careful not to bump into him, or he'll eat you!

Additionally, some rooms of the cave may have a pit.

Its a long way down, so don't fall into them!
